While the MT-LB was designed as a fully amphibious armored personnel carrier, it doubles as an ambulance, command vehicle and artillery support vehicle. The driver and a commander/gunner at the front of the vehicle, with the engine behind them. The rear compartment holds 11 infantrymen or a cargo of 4,400 lbs.

This MT-LB is one of 6 pieces of Iraq equipment captured by the 527th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy) during Operation Desert Storm. They were captured while conducting main supply route construction for VII Corps near the Kuwaiti Border.

More about this marker. Located on the grounds of the Louisiana National Guard, Jackson Barracks base. The Ansel M. Stroud Jr. Military History & Weapons Museum is located on site. Museum is opened M-Sat 10-4. Highly recommend checking before a visit to make sure base/museum is opened and accessible to civilians, as it is an active military base.
