enclosure dedicated to art and knowledge. It was part of the annexes of the Convent of San Francisco, but with the confiscation of the goods of the Church and the expulsion of the devoutly religious, in 1861 it became the seat of the "Escuela Practica de Minas", and after being destined for different uses during the revolutionary period, the garrison troops used it as a barracks and military offices, whereupon it was known as the "Gabriel Hernandez" barracks until, in 1984 the building was designated to be the Regional Museum of the State of Hidalgo.

Today this building is known as the Arts Barracks, comprising a gallery and temporary exhibition room The building boasts a neoclassical style although it is mostly solemn for its lack of ornaments; on the façade there are smooth frames, and on the second level one can see a baluster, finished with a smooth pediment The east side has an entrance marked by Toscana columns seated in high bases.

Erected by Honorable Ayuntamiento de Pachuca de Soto.
