2. Front of Monument

was originally placed along Reynolds Avenue on the first day battlefield. It was, as the inscription states, paid for by the surviving veterans of the 121st Pennsylvania. In 1888 the State of Pennsylvania allocated funds to veterans organizations for monuments at Gettysburg. The 121st's veterans opted to replaced the original monument, and relocate it to Cemetery Hill.
