Village police officers Ivan Wilson and Gerald Chase stopped Elmer Anderson for having a light out. Unbeknownst to the officers, the driver had just robbed a store. Noting suspicious behavior from Anderson, Chase searched the car. An unprovoked attack left Wilson fatally shot and Chase injured. Anderson was later fatally shot by an Ohio State Trooper near Fayette, while attempting to arrest him.
