Inscription. The First Lady of Jazz possessed superlative musicianship and skill in scat singing (improvisational vocals). After being discovered at age 16 in a Harlem talent show, Fitzgerald performed throughout America, Europe and Asia and on milestone recordings with Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson and Louis Armstrong.
