1. Walter Reed Marker
Inscription. Reed received his medical degree from UVa at 18 and became a career Army Major. By 40 he was engaged in some of the most important work in the history of medicine. Reed's research into the cause and spread of typhoid and yellow fevers saved millions of lives. The Walter Reed Army Medical Center in D.C. is named in his honor, and is the nation's foremost military health care provider and center for worldwide health referrals, education and research.
