Couric was the first woman to solo anchor and be managing editor for a major television news prime-time broadcast, the CBS Evening News, in 2006. Prior to that, Couric was co-host of "NBC Today" for five years an co-host of the Barcelona Summer Olympics in 1992. Couric, a prominent advocate for colon and breast cancer awareness, inspired hundreds of thousands of people to get regular checkups.
