1. 2204 E. Grace Street Marker
Inscription. This classic Italianate townhouse was built in 1885 by Charles W. Hardwick, a local developer. Mr. Hardwick was also the owner of Hardwick & Mitchell Box Factory & Planing Mill. The company was located at 1810-1816 Cary Street specializing in moldings, brackets, cornices, and scroll work. The Hardwick family moved into the house during the construction of their family moved into the house during the construction of their residence at 2200 E. Grace Street. In 1893, Thomas Peek of Thomas C. Peek & Co, manufacturers' agents & drug brokers located at 4 S. 12th Street, and James Hope, druggist, moved into the house. W.S. Wood, clerk, subsequently resided in the house. This house is listed as a contributing structure to the St. John's Church Historic District on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
