Circa 1890. Centerburg Historical Mural. This mural shows East Main Street on the south side next to the Public Square (which is now the gazebo park). As early as 1823 Centerburg was a livery stop for the stage coaches traveling from the north and east to the state capital. In the late 1800's Centerburg had two hotels. The one shown was originally the Lyons Hotel, then the Reynolds Hotel and finally the Park Hotel. It had a restaurant overlooking the square and 22 rooms. It was also connected to the Park Livery for local transportation needs. The hotel was demolished in 1936 to make way for a gasoline station. It is now the site of Subway. The two men crossing the street in the mural are based on a photo of Wilbur and Orville Wright.
