El 19 de octubre de 1811 fueron ejecutados en esta Plaza un grupo de patriotas que dieron su vida por la Independencia de M้xico. En su recuerdo y homenaje se le llam๓ "Plaza de los Martires"

English translation:
On October 19, 1811, a group of patriots who gave their lives for the Independence of Mexico were executed in this Plaza. In their memory as a tribute this place is to be known as the "Plaza of the Martyrs"
