1. Log Cabin Viewing Window Marker
Inscription. Through this window you are able to see the hand-hewn logs of the log cabin portion of the farmhouse, circa 1775. Trees would have been felled and broad axes, adzes and other hand tools used to straighten and flatten the trees into timbers that could be stacked to create the cabin structure. You can clearly see the marks that the tools made on the flattened surface. Mud, straw, and other available materials were used to straighten and flatten the trees into timbers that could be stacked to create the cabin structure. You can clearly see the marks that the tools made on the flattened surface. Mud, straw, and other available materials were used as "chinking" to fill the gaps between the logs to insulate the cabin. The material you see between the logs today is more modern insulation installed during a renovation.
