Wellsville in Allegany County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
William F. Jones 1826-1910 / Gertrude F. Jones 1841-1920
Inscription.
William F Jones, an attorney, banker, and prominent businessman, and his wife Gertrude F. Jones will always be remembered for their generous gift, which made today's Jones Memorial Hospital, a reality. In 1920, they bequeathed their stately home for use as a hospital. Their gift has evolved into the present structure, thanks to the efforts and generous donations of countless citizens, businesses, organizations, and governmental agencies. All shared the Jones' vision of a hospital, as expressed in Gertrude's will: "to receive the sick, maimed or injured who may need hospital care, without discrimination against those who may be unable to pay".
