1. Provost Marshall's Headquarters South Jackson Street Marker
Inscription. Provost Marshall's Headquarters — On S. Jackson St., about middle of United Methodist Church parking lot. At the conclusion of the Tullahoma Campaign, the Federal government stationed troops to guard the city. Tullahoma was especially vital because of its location along the railroad line necessary to keep troops supplied. Until 1865 Middle Tennessee was a hotbed of civilian resistance and guerilla warfare. Districts were set up, each headed by a Provost Marshall to curb and ultimately crush the threat. The building no longer exists.

Next Stop - East side of Atlantic Street between Grundy & Lincoln Streets.
