Inscription. In 1892, the post office, which had formerly operated from the local postmaster's home or business, moved into this specifically designated storefront. From 1905 to 1945, it housed city hall, city jail, and the fire department, followed by law offices. From 1915 to 1964, a large windowed bay on the upper level, supported on poles extending to the sidewalk, gave a panoramic view of the square to lawyers upstairs until it burned and was removed.
