Inscription. This building was constructed to replace an older one destroyed, along with the adjoining corner building, by a disastrous fire in 1934. Vaughan Hardware occupied the new building until 1958, when E. H. Hudson, who once baked a cross-shaped cake weighing 200 pounds for Rev. Billy Graham's 33rd birthday, located his bakery here. From 1958 to 1994, the bakery, variously called Hudson's, Murrell's and Happy Cake, was a popular meeting place to enjoy conversation over coffee and donuts.
