1. Third National United States Flag Marker
Inscription. The Flag Act of 1818 established the basic design of the United States Flag used today with thirteen stripes representing the original thirteen colonies. Each star represented a state, and every time a state joined the Union a star was added to the flag on the following Fourth of July. In 1818 there were twenty states. The US claimed the entire Oklahoma area, except for the panhandle, and began to enforce the Indian exodus to Oklahoma.
