1. Built 1898 Marker
Inscription. John Schrom's bakery, established shortly after the Civil War, operated at this site until 1897. This building, constructed by A. W. Taylor, John Schrom's son-in-law, was used as a restaurant, and then a saloon, until it was purchased by H. B. and S. M. Alexander, Jr. for the Southern Printing and Publishing Co., publisher of The Truth and Herald newspaper. Since 1967, the building has been occupied by various shops and businesses.
