Inscription. In the 1820s, Mrs. Ewing kept a storehouse here and had living quarters upstairs. By 1856, storekeeper H. Nassauer advertised “ready-to-wear clothing.” After a fire in 1884 burned most of the block, Colonel J. D. Wilson erected this building, where he operated a general store. This was followed by Simmons Drug Co., H. G. Hill Grocery, and a wide variety of retail businesses.
