Coast Guard. Semper Paratus. The U.S. Coast Guard is America's oldest maritime defenders formerly known as the United States Revenue Cutter Service. Their history dates back to 1790, and they have been officially established as a branch of the United States Armed Forces since January 28, 1915. The Coast Guard provides law and maritime safety enforcement, marine and environmental protection, and military and naval support. While they are part of the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, the Coast Guard operates under the Department of Navy during times of war.
