1. Texas Road Marker

Inscription. As early as 1822 pioneers and traders began traveling a native trade route that entered present-day Oklahoma near the northeast corner and ran to the Muskogee area. From there the route angled southwest, remaining east of the Cross Timbers, and crossed the Red River at Colbert's Ferry.

The route brought trade goods to Indian Territory and helped populate Texas. Both the Katy Railroad and US Highway 69 later followed the route of the Texas Road.
