El Oro se erigió en municipalidad en agosto de 1828, agregando a su nombre el de Hidalgo en homenaje al Patricio de la Independencia Nacional.

El Oro was created as a municipality in August 1828, adding to its name that of Hidalgo in tribute to the National Independence hero.
