1. Elmer W. Hinkleman Rhododendron Gardens Marker

Inscription. Dedicated to Elmer W. Hinkleman, director of public welfare from 1962 - 1968 through whose efforts the Crosby Estate was accepted for the citizens of Toledo on Oct. 19, 1964. Crosby was dubbed "Elmer's Garden" because of Mr. Hinkleman's efforts to develop the area as a botanical garden instead of as ball fields. Mr. Hinkleman felt the unique natural beauty should be preserved and enhanced as a spot where one could "enjoy God's green acres quietly." The Crosby Board felt this was the most fitting way of saying "Thank You".
