1. Grenada Fort Marker
Inscription. In 1862 the Confederate army built forts throughout Grenada in response to General Ulysses S. Grant's Mississippi Central Railroad Campaign to capture Vicksburg. This small fort was placed to guard the approach to Grenada from the south, along the main road leading (in 1862) to Carrollton. The TV tower hill fort is the smallest earthwork still in existence and was likely manned by a small infantry regiment. The identity of the troops who occupied this site is unknown.
