1. 18th Illinois Mounted Infantry Marker
Inscription. With eight pieces of Confederate artillery placed about 200 yards in their front, many of the men lay down along the fence line to avoid the intense fire of shell, grape and cannister. By early afternoon, white flags began to appear in the woods which were back of the fence line.
