Larry Rice
Larry Rice lived a life full of accomplishment, reaching the pinnacle of success in the sport he was passionate about, auto racing. A two-time starter in the Indianapolis 500, he won Co-Rookie Of The Year honors in 1978. He was twice the USAC Silver Crown Champion in 1977 and 1981. In 1973, he won the USAC National Midget Championship. That achievement, along with his 15 national midget wins, propelled him to being inducted into the National Midget Racing Hall of Fame in 1993.
Before Larry retired in 1991, he won every major USAC event, including the 1981 Hoosier Hundred. Larry’s immense popularity was international, having raced in New Zealand and Australia. After racing he became an adept broadcaster. For twenty years he did radio and TV, starring with Gary Lee, in ESPN’s award winning, “Saturday Night Thunder”. Beyond hs many successes, its Larry’s kindness and geniality that are best recalled. Born in Linden, Indiana, it was Brownsburg that Larry called home.
