Inscription. "The Superchief" was one of the greatest New York Yankees pitchers of all time, a six-time All-Star with 182 wins and 49 saves in 12 major league seasons, including two no-hitters in 1951. At his best in World Series games, he was a key factor in the Yankees' six world championships in 1947 and 1949-1953. His combined seven wins and four saves was still a World Series record over 50 years later. His 100 mile an hour fastball and sharp-breaking curve helped him win 10 or more games in 12 straight seasons, striking out 1,423 batters and recording 36 shutouts. Although his pitching record was enviable, he personally considered his greatest contribution to baseball to be his work as the Yankees' player representative in establishing the players pension fund.

A Native American of Creek Indian ancestry and a great athlete, he was an even greater Oklahoman, contributing time, talent and finances to numerous civic and charitable causes. The ideal role model, his spirit lives on in the Red Earth Festival, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the many other projects, organizations and people touched by Allie Reynolds.
