The Powder Magazine, built in 1862 as part of the Drum Barracks military post, is 16-by-14-feet with three foot thick walls. Used to store wooden kegs of gunpowder during the Civil War, the structure is built of brick, mortar and stone quarried locally on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
