Inscription. Behind this chapel of the Remsenburg Community Church is the gravesite of Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, English-born author, lyricist, and verse poet, creator of Bertie Wooster, Jeeves Psmith, Lord Emsworth, Mr. Mulliner, and many more immortal characters. He became an American citizen in 1955 and lived and worked in Remsenburg for the last two decades of his life. He was honored with a British knighthood shortly before his death. His gentle humor and superb mastery of the English language continue to bring joy to readers all over the world.

Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE (/ˈwʊdhaʊs/ WOOD-howss; 15 October 1881 – 14 February 1975) was an English author and one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century. Born in Guildford, the third son of a British magistrate based in Hong Kong, Wodehouse spent happy teenage years at Dulwich College, to which he remained devoted all his life.
