DeBary in Volusia County, Florida — The American South (South Atlantic)
The Stable
DeBary Hall Historic Site
This stable dates from the earliest years of the deBarys’ winter place. It appears in an 1882 survey but must be older than that. From the 1870s, the estate relied on horses and mules for trips to local towns, hunting, leisure riding and managing a far-flung property.
Over time, the deBarys’ added other buildings around the stable and its long equipment shed. The complex once included an orange-packing house, a hay barn, and even a hangar for the younger deBarys’ airplane. Later owners removed these structures, leaving the stable intact. Today, the building has a new role as a meeting and reception space that preserves the stable’s historic character.
Erected by the County of Volusia and the City of Debary.
