Peter C. Reiners Soldiers' Monument
1871
Erected on nearby Monument Hill, the original monument was an elaborate structure, with multiple life-size figures, bas-reliefs, commemorative panels, and a staircase leading to a balcony of stone forty feet above the ground. During a redevelopment program in the 1920s, the hill on which it stood was partially leveled and the monument was removed. Following a redesign, it was installed in its current location in 1931, with only the figure of Fame and parts of the spire remaining of the original composition.
Erected 1871.
