Missouria's Garden
Garden maintained by Taylor Moyer, Tom Jenny, Phil Johnson
Missouria Ritter (1844-1929) was the daughter of Joseph Ritter, the original setter of land just two miles west of here. Missouria was known for her personality and was remembered by family as kind and friendly. One great joy in her life was gardening. In order to maintain enough food for the winter months, Missouria maintained at minimum a one-acre garden. Her gardening skills were so developed that she would maintain a garden until she was almost 85 years old.
This garden has a variety of historical crops including Iroguois melon, crookneck squash, climbing green beans, and an 1880s variety of sweet corn. All of the seeds and crops for this garden plot were purchased and donated by Klein Bros. Hardware in Malinta, Ohio.
