Maybury Sanatorium 1921-1969
In the 1940s, nearly half of the sanatorium's 480 employees lived on the grounds. The Doctors' Home contained 14 apartments of varying sizes for some of the resident physicians. Medical conferences to determine the course of treatment for each patient were held twice a week in the first floor reception room, which was also used for occasional social gatherings.
The physicians have "the Maybury tradition of doing careful, conscientious, thoughtful work - the sort of professional activity that leads to the largest number of successful cures."
-Dr. H.S. Willis, Superintendent and Medical Director, Maybury Manual, 1941

There isn't much left of it these days, aside from a couple scraps of rubble here and there in the woods. The beautiful wooded hills have been preserved for public recreation however, and it may be fondly remembered by most Metro-Detroiters as the one and only place that they ever rode a horse.(Submitted on July 21, 2021, by J.T.
