The power house provided services for the entire Sanatorium. This complex of facilities, all under one roof, contained a water pumping station for water needs and fire protection, an ice plant, pasteurization plant, laundry facilities, machine shop, paint shop, electric generators for power and electricity, and a central heating plant.

In the 1940's, operations at the power house required 5290 tons of coal per year. Total yearly water usage was 60 million gallons, all of it pumped by the power house from springs and wells on the property.

"…we have under one roof our power house, laundry, and ice plant so that from one building we are furnished with light, heat, water, and an additional water supply for fire protection. Water, already cooled, is piped up to the sanatorium from the ice plant.

There isn't much left of it these days, aside from a couple scraps of rubble here and there in the woods. The beautiful wooded hills have been preserved for public recreation however, and it may be fondly remembered by most Metro-Detroiters as the one and only place that they ever rode a horse.
