Martha's Vineyard in Edgartown in Dukes County, Massachusetts — The American Northeast (New England)
Manuel Swartz Roberts
For many years this building was the shop of
Manuel Swartz Roberts
Boat builder
1881-1963
From its doors came catboats, beach boats, fishing boats, all staunch, all honest, all seaworthy, all partaking of the nature of their builder.
Thru its doors also came his many friends and, in particular, the young sailors of the town to gam, to learn the use of tools and to draw inspiration from his homely philosophy, keen wit and never failing kindness. Manuel was never too busy to give of his time and heart. Truly he was also a builder of men.
