Inscription. In 1834, nine people met in a house north of the village of Macon to discuss forming a Methodist congregation. In November 1834, the Macon Methodist Episcopal Church became part of the Noxubee Circuit, which was then part of the Alabama Conference. The original church was built in 1836 on West Eighth Street. The current church building, which was completed in 1852, served as a hospital during the Civil War. Originally a Greek Revival structure, it was remodeled in the Gothic Style in 1897.
