Inscription. This map was drawn by John Caruthers in 1858, for the Diuguid Undertakers business, and was paid for by City Council. Although the grid system was not adhered to with any regularity, the large sections for specific racial or class groups (e.g. "Strangers" or "Colored") remained intact. "Gate" corresponds to the present main entrance at Fourth and Taylor Streets.
