Inscription.
Lee's right wing was defended by earthworks on this stream, here and to the east. These works were unsuccessfully attacked by Union forces, February 5-7, 1865. On the morning of April 2, 1865, they were stormed by Union troops.
 
Erected 1929 by Conservation & Development Commission. (Marker Number S-50.)

This 20th century structure is located on the mill site. The fighting on the Feb 5, 1865 took place in the vicinity of Steers Millpond, to the north of Hatcher's Run and east of Duncan Road.
