Inscription.
M-114. . The M114 Command and Reconnaissance Carrier was a tracked armored fighting vehicle, used by the United States Army in Vietnam. It is a lightweight, low-silhouette vehicle designed to be fast and stealthy. It is constructed of aluminum and powered by a Chevrolet 283 V-8. Designed to complement the M113 in command and reconnaissance roles, it looked like a sleeker, lower version of the M113 and could swim, propelled by its tracks. It was light enough to be transported by cargo aircraft and dropped by parachute. The commander's cupola required that the hatch be opened to fire the .50 cal. machine gun. The observer in the rear had an M60 7.62 mm machine gun mounted on a pedestal. There was stowage on the rear door for three M72A1 "LAW" and tank rockets. However unlike the M113 which became one of the most successful armored vehicles, it quickly proved unsuited to use in the Vietnam War. It was manufactured by the Cadillac Division of General Motors in the early 1960s, Length - 14ft. 8 in. , Width - 7ft. 8 in. , Height - 7ft. 10in. , Max. weight - 15,000 lbs. , Top speed - 36 M.P.H. , Range - 275 miles , Crew - 3 , Main gun - .50-caliber M2 machine gun , 2nd gun - 7.62 mm M60 machine gun , Powered - Chevy 283 engine
