One Room Schoolhouse
This one room country school was built in 1898 and called the Mast School; named after John and Mary Mast on whose property it was built on Gettel Road in Sebewaing, Michigan. It functioned as a one room country school until Christmas of 1947 when only eight students remained. Once the students were transferred to Sebewaing, migrant workers lived in it, and then it was moved to the Village of Sebewaing. In 1983 it was repaired, restored and used by the Sebewaing Historical Society. It was donated and then moved to this site in 2005 and restored to its original appearance. It came with a tin ceiling, light fixtures, chalkboards, a large wood/coal stove and hardwood flooring.
Today the one room country schools are almost a thing of the past; however, in the early days they played a major role in rural living.
