Inscription. The original owner was Louis Chopard, a partner in Chopard and Cosgrove Wholesale and Retail Liquors, who ran his successful business in downtown Seattle. In 1901 Nicholas Theisen purchased this property and maintained ownership until the late 1930s. One of the storefronts was renovated in 1908 to accommodate the Ballard Theater, which was operated for twenty years by pioneer businesswoman S.J. McEntee. She made it a policy to book performers and films that were suitable for even the youngest child. Her theater was modest in scale and she charged only five to ten cents per performance.
