Inscription.
The building in this photograph was erected in 1808 by the Dutch Reformed Church in Richmond, Staten Island. It originally stood about two block from here, on Arthur Kill Road at Center Street. Around 1885-1887, when the building was no longer in use as a church, it was relocated to this area of Center Street to be used as storage or work space for the nearby Marsh & Nolan carriage and wagon manufactury. The building seen in the background at far left is now Historic Richmond Town's Stephens-Black House.

The former church's demolition was reported in the Richmond County Advance on April 11, 1903: "Another Old Land-Mark Gone. Another old and valued land-mark disappears. For several days past workmen have been engaged in demolishing the old Dutch Reformed Church at Richmond, and the work of 'progressive vandalism' is about completed…" However, the original parsonage building, where ministers of the church lived from 1855 to 1875, stands on Arthur Kill Road at Clarke Avenue.

Erected by Historic Richmond Town.
