The originals were thought to be part of the Confederate arsenal at Fort Sumter, which is recognized as the official beginning of the Civil War, on April 12, 1861.
After standing guard on this site for 40 years, they were given to the War Production Board in 1942 to be melted down and used to support the efforts of WWII.
This replica was cast by the Bay Cast Companies in Bay City, Michigan, in May 2016.
