1. History in the Park Marker
Inscription. In the early 20th century, the Empire Stores, the Tobacco Inspection Warehouse, and 200 other warehouses lined the Brooklyn shore from DUMBO to Red Hook. This was one of the world's busiest waterfronts. Brazilian coffee, Argentinian cattle hides, Cuban sugar, and Kentucky tobacco arrived at these buildings for storage and sale.
