More about this marker. In 1966, this plaque was placed at the northwest end of Kurtz Street in Old Town San Diego. As E Clampus Vitus explains it “There were assurances in 1966 that a small part of the Dike would be saved in later construction of State Route 109 highway, a westward extension of Interstate 8 highway. In fact, the plaque was almost destroyed by careless equipment operators; the Dike was obliterated.” ECV kept the plaque until it was rededicated in this location on November 18, 1975.
