These gallant men served on merchant ships to protect troops and supplies enroute to war zones around the globe a total of 144,970 personnel who served to protect 6,236 ships of which 710 were lost in battle. 1.810 men killed in action and 27 men taken prisoner of war. The average crew was 1 officer, 1 signalman, 1 radioman, & 26 gunners.
