Fighting continued here for about an hour as Union troops halted and hurled back the initial Confederate attacks. As more Confederate brigades entered the fight, threatening their exposed flanks, Prentiss' troops retired their battle line one-quarter mile north to defend their camps., Still advancing, firing as we moved, I, at last, saw a row of little globes of pearly smoke streaked with crimson, breaking out with sportive quickness from a long line of bluey...figures. , Private Henry M.
