Rose's Drug Store. 120 N Main St. This building was the location of the John J. Schauffert Drug Store from 1896 until 1899 when Mr. Herman Rose bought the business and renamed it Rose's Drug Store. The store boasted Columbia's first soda fountain. Althoughthe drug store had changed hands, one constant remained. Drug store employee, John Daab, worked for both families, eventually became a degreed pharmacist, and purchased the business from the Rose family in 1918. The store finally became known as Daab's Drug Store. After John Daab retired, the building became a variety of other businesses. In 1987, Conrad press leased the building to operate the Monroe County Independent newspaper.
