1. The "Pink" Murphy House Marker
Inscription. Around 1849, George Murphy, a farmer in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, built a house on this site for his father, William Murphy. In 1916, Alfred I. du Pont, who owned the "Nemours" estate across the street, acquired the Murphy property. For several decades thereafter, it served as a dwelling house for employees of his estate. Known by many as the "Pink House" for the color of its stucco walls, the Murphy house was torn down in 2011.
