1. Last Church Marker
Inscription. The Spanish returned to New Mexico 12 years after the 1680 Pueblo Revolt. In front of you are the remains of the smaller church they completed in 1717.

Pecos Pueblo had entered a long decline due to disease, famine, and raids. Over time the Pecos people dispersed. The few remaining pueblo residents departed to join other Towa speakers at Jemez in 1838.

·Every August members of St. Anthony's parish in the village of Pecos and the Pueblo of Jemez bring a painting of the patron saint, Nuestra Senora de los Angeles (Our Lady of the Angels), here in a feast day mass celebration.

·The sanctuary featured a painting of Pecos' patron saint, Nuestra Senora de los Angeles (Our Lady of the Angels), above the altar.
