Pecos Pueblo had entered a long decline due to disease, famine, and raids. Over time the Pecos people dispersed. The few remaining pueblo residents departed to join other Towa speakers at Jemez in 1838.

·Every August members of St. Anthony's parish in the village of Pecos and the Pueblo of Jemez bring a painting of the patron saint, Nuestra Senora de los Angeles (Our Lady of the Angels), here in a feast day mass celebration.
