To those native sons and daughters of the great state of Maine who made the supreme sacrifice while serving their country on active duty in the United States Navy and Marine Corps during times of armed conflict.
On Armed Forces Day, May 17, 1986 the naval guns aboard Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine were dedicated in remembrance.
History of guns:
Five-inch 51mm naval guns served the fleet from 1916 to 1944 as secondary batteries on Battleships of the Florida and Nevada classes (BB 30-40) and as primary batteries on the Cruiser USS Olympia (C 6) and auxiliary ships.
